Many of you who know me personally know that I have Ukrainian heritage. I was born in Mongolia, but spent my formative years in Ukraine, so the current events around Russian-Ukrainian conflict are hitting really close to home.

On Feb 24, 2022, Russian troops started a military attack on major Ukrainian military infrastructure sites. Since then the attack has expanded onto other Ukrainian cities. The exact purpose behind the attacks is not immediately clear, nor do we know how long this situation will last.

What is evident today is that people are dying, including children and women, even more are getting injured, homes are getting destroyed, cities are burning and thousands of families are fleeing to other countries in hopes of finding safety.

I am very thankful to each and every one of you who has reached out with warm thoughts and prayers. Many of you asked me how you can help.

After engaging with members in the community, I have put together a list of donation sites to support Ukraine and it’s people, that I would like to share.

1. National Bank of Ukraine

This is the official site set up on Feb 24th, 2022 by the National Bank of Ukraine specifically to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces in an effort to withstand Russian aggression. Pros of sending money directly through NBU is that it was the most common answer that I got directly from my Ukrainian audience on Instagram when I asked about the best organizations to send donations.

2. “Povernys’ Zhyvym” (Come Back Alive) Fund

A legitimate charitable organization that has been established back in 2014, when the first signs of conflict in the Eastern Ukraine started arising. Pros of sending your donations this way is that the organization is on a smaller side, which makes it more agile than the national fund listed above. This agility enables the organization to deliver targeted, immediate help to Ukrainian soldiers.

3. Ukraine Crisis Appeal

Project name: Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief Aid. This is the recommendation that Carl’s company shares with all its employees. Pros: It’s a great way to support crisis in Ukraine in a non-military way.

“To meet immediate lifesaving needs of the crisis-affected civilian population in Ukraine & provide early recovery assistance as soon as feasible. To save & preserve lives, easy [sic] suffering & promote self-sufficiency.”

4. Ukraine Solidarity Fund by the Knights of Columbus

This fund has been set up by the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization, where Carl’s uncle is currently a member. Pros to donating to this fund is that “the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council has promised to match every dollar up to $500,000” to “further the impact.”

“Your gift today will provide temporary shelter, food, medical supplies, clothing, communications and religious supplies. These items will all be immediately distributed, and 100% of your gift will go directly to these displaced people.

I will continue updating this list with donation sites that come to my attention as they come in. I believe that the light and love will prevail. Maintaining inner balance, calmness and humanity is what I am focusing my efforts on right now, while filing the paperwork to get my sisters and their children over to the US and helping the humanitarian funds listed above financially. This is what is within my control. Everything else lies in the hands of God.
